French exchange 2014 Posted on: 11 Jul 2014

This June, 27 pupils from Whitburn C of E Academy and Monkwearmouth Academy went on the return visit to our French exchange school, the Collège Saint Jean Baptiste de La Salle in Charleville-Mézières, in the Champagne region. They were all pleased to see their penfriends again and the visit has reinforced some already great friendships. Our pupils spent evenings and the weekend with their hosting families, discovering the French way of life first hand. The most daring even asked to try snails… and discovered they were rather palatable! some dhanges

During our day trips, we visited the De Castellane Champagne cellars, Parc Astérix, the beautiful Belgian town of Bouillon (where all bought chocolate!), the WW1 front in Verdun (the underground Citadelle, the ossuary, a destroyed village and Fort Douaumont) and a Go-Ape park. We also had the opportunity to attend lessons at the Collège. Whilst it was sad to see pupils leave their penfriends with tears at the end of the week, it was a pleasure hearing French and English students planning to meet up again soon.
