Whitburn Church of England Academy is the lead secondary school in the Prince Bishops Teaching School Alliance.
We provide a unique school based learning opportunity in partnership with Durham SCITT (School Centre Initial Teacher Training), graded Outstanding by Ofsted in 2014.
Whitburn Church of England Academy and its partner schools work closely with Durham SCITT to provide outstanding support for teachers at the start of their careers. We have extensive experience in providing exceptional training and development opportunities for our trainees.
Prince Bishops Teaching School Alliance, designated in 2014, is a unique partnership between secondary and primary schools, working with young people aged 3-19 years. This unique cross-phase teaching school of which there are, at present seven strategic partners, offers our trainees greater opportunity to experience a wide range of educational settings.
Together with our partner schools, we are growing our teacher-training programme within secondary schools across the North East of England.
We actively encourage applicants, and those interested in teaching, to apply to our unique school volunteering programme. This offers potential applicants the chance to meet experienced staff and present trainees as well as receiving advice to enhance their UCAS application and guide them through the process of application and selection.
New for 2019/20. We are delighted to announce our unique RE teacher training programme, supported by the Hild and Bede Trust. We have developed our own SKE programme which will provide you with the core knowledge required to be a successful teacher of RE. Trainees will receive dedicated subject knowledge enhancement sessions, based on individual needs and delivered by experienced teachers. This bespoke programme, which is the first of its kind, also offers a bursary top up to the value of £10,000.
In 2020, trainees will be placed in a cluster of four host secondary schools, sharing the same vision, excellence in education and life experiences. We provide the highest standards of education and care and encourage our young people to have high aspirations and be confident global citizens. Our partnership of schools are all highly successful in their own right with excellent records of accomplishment in developing teachers from training to headship.

We create an environment in which staff, pupils and trainee teacher’s alike feel valued and supported. We have worked with trainee teachers for many years and we fully recognise how much vibrancy, enthusiasm and drive they can offer to a school community.
