Careers and HE Events Posted on: 11 Jul 2018

On Friday 22nd June we hosted two very successful Careers events for our Year 10 pupils and Year 12 students.

Our Year 10 event saw a range of local colleges, training/apprenticeship providers and employers attending to give information and advice to our Year 10 pupils and introduce them to the range of opportunities that now exist and where their post 16 choices can lead them. Feedback from the providers was very positive:

David Grey Solicitors – “The careers event was excellent. I thought the pupils were very polite and asked some very good questions.”

Gateshead College – “Thank you for hosting us at your event today. I found your students very engaging and ambitious! – I have never had so many questions fired at me in 1 hour!”

Our Year 12 event held in the afternoon in our 6th form building saw a number of universities and employers who offer School Leaver Programmes and Degree Apprenticeship along with Gap Year providers attend to support and advise our 6th formers on their future career paths.  Those that attended included Durham, Newcastle, York, Herriot Watt, Leeds Trinity and Leeds Beckett, Northumbria, Sunderland, Teesside, Hull and Huddersfield along with Ernst & Young, PwC, RSM UK and Deloittes.

Feedback was, again, very positive:

Leeds Beckett University – . “It was a great event. It was great to see your students so keen to learn about their future opportunities.”

Ernst & Young – “Yes we really enjoyed it and the people we spoke to were very keen and showed a great curiosity for the company and what we did.”

Pupils took an enthusiastic and positive approach to both events, ensuring another successful Careers Day within the Academy.
