Double Celebrations at Whitburn! Posted on: 1 Sep 2015

Pupils and staff at Whitburn Church of England Academy celebrated another excellent set of GCSE results on the same day the school received the keys to its new Sixth Form Centre. The provisional headline figure is 74% of pupils gaining at least 5 GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths.

Mr Hardie, Academy Principal, commented “We are pleased with the GCSE results, which are in line with our highest predictions for this year group. They reflect the hard work of pupils and staff, which is made all the more difficult by constant changes to the GCSE examination system. It’s easy to focus on the headline figures but we never forget that this is only the accumulation of the results for each of our pupils. Many have overcome huge barriers to achieve their results and it is vital that we celebrate the successes of each individual”.

“We are also delighted that our new Sixth Form Centre has been handed over today (20th August). We are thrilled that we can now realise our long-held ambition of providing our students with the Sixth Form they deserve. We are also delighted that our GCSE results once again make us the highest attaining school in South Tyneside and one of the top performing schools in the region.  We are confident that the careful planning and excellent recruitment with mean that in 2017 our first A level results will reflect our success at GCSE over many years.
