F1 Club Success Posted on: 11 Jul 2018

Some of our Year 7 pupils were involved in the F1/Engineering UK competition at NISSAN on 3rd July 2018. Nine pupils were involved in the event in two teams; creating fantastic and creative F1 cars. The pupils also created an exciting racing team portfolio, comprising of budgeting, marketing, and racing car design. Pupils were able to gain sponsorship from several local businesses including ‘Shape Shifters Hatha Yoga’, ‘Cookery Club’ and ‘Marketing Wand’.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed working as part of a team. They created websites, designed cars, tested the quickest reaction times, and prepared their pit walls. The teams showed determination and outstanding team work throughout the competition.

Whitburn’s ‘Team Vengeance Racing’ won trophies for: ‘Best Development Team Overall’, ‘Best Portfolio’, their pit display, their marketing and professionalism, and ‘Best Engineering’’. Whitburn’s ‘Team Tornado Twisters’ won the trophy for ‘The Fastest Car Overall’. A fantastic achievement for both teams!

The F1 Club will also be competing in another F1 challenge – ‘F1 in Schools’ – in January 2019. As a result of their success so far, Whitburn’s teams have received free entry to this competition, and the pupils will be developing their car designs even further using new materials/machines. I look forward to their forthcoming achievements and professionalism in the New Year!
