F1 Engineering UK Competition Posted on: 26 Jun 2017

On Thursday 22nd June 2017, some of our Year 7 pupils were involved in the F1/Engineering UK Competition held at the Nissan Plant, Sunderland.

As a school we entered four teams, totalling 15 pupils, who created fantastic F1 cards alongside their racing team portfolio, which included budgeting,  marketing and racing car design.  The pupils gained sponsorship for their cars from several local businesses – Shape Shifters Hatha Yoga, Sunderland FC, Tutti Frutti and Native Print.

The pupils enjoyed the opportunity to experience being part of a team; creating websites, designed their cars at Nissan, preparing times for their race.  The teams showed determination and outstanding teamwork throughout the competition and during the event.

Team Dynabyte (pictured below) saw off competition from 18 other teams to win ‘Fastest Car’ and Team Speed of Light (pictured on the front page) won the trophy for ‘Pit Display, Marketing and Professionalism’.  I am sure that you will agree this is a fantastic achievement for the pupils and they all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

The F1 Club will also compete in another F1 Challenge called F1 in Schools, which will take place in January 2018.  They will develop their car designs further, using new materials/machines and creating outstanding teams.  We will look forward to bringing you news of their achievements in the new year.
