Record Breaking Results for Our Class of 2016! Posted on: 25 Aug 2016

Congratulations to the Whitburn Church of England Academy ‘Class of 2016’ with their GCSE results exceeding all expectations. An amazing 86% of pupils passed English and Maths, the Department for Education’s new key measure for GCSE results.  On the old measure of pupils achieving 5 or more A* – C grades including English and Maths, the figure was 85%, the best in the history of the school.  The progress figures were also the best ever achieved by the school, over 90% in both English and Maths.

Other highlights included two-thirds of pupils achieving C or above in the three Separate Sciences and two-thirds of those taking Further Maths gaining A* or A grades.

We are thrilled with the GCSE results, which are even better than we hoped for. It’s fantastic that the hard work of pupils and staff during their GCSE courses has been rewarded with outstanding results.  We never take our success for granted and strive to keep improving results each year and I would like to thank parents, carers and governors for their excellent support.  Well done to each and every one of our Year 11 pupils!
