Sports Day and End of Term Arrangements Posted on: 13 Jul 2016

On Tuesday 19th July 2016, we will hold our annual House Sports Day event.  All pupils will take part in a number of individual and team sporting events, representing their form class and their houses, overseen by our newly appointed House Captains.

As you will be aware each house team has been allocated a team colour and we ask that all pupils attend school wearing a t-shirt or athletic vest of that colour, which they will wear whilst competing and throughout the rest of the day. This top can then be worn at other House events over the coming years.  Tops in all the House colours are available at stockists such as Sports Direct online and Primark; there is no need to purchase expensive ‘designer’ clothing!  Pupils should also wear their academy PE kit (please note that fashion leggings are not an acceptable part of the Academy PE kit, however athletic/running leggings are appropriate).  If there are any difficulties with providing the correct colour of top, your child must inform their form tutor as soon as possible.

Pupils must wear training shoes suitable for outdoor use, as plimsolls are unsuitable for health and safety reasons. It is extremely important that they bring suitable additional clothing (e.g. tracksuit top or sweatshirt), sunscreen or sun block and a hat, to accommodate the changeable British weather.  Please also ensure that your child has a non-fizzy soft drink so that they remain hydrated throughout the day.  Alternatively pupils may bring a water bottle to be filled at the water dispensers.  There will be a limited breakfast and break service on Sports Day, but the lunch service will operate as normal beginning at 11.50am instead of the usual time of 12.30pm

We will, of course, be mindful of the weather forecast for this day and, should the need arise; we may change the date of the event accordingly. We will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible of any such change.  The start and end of the school day will be as normal and the scholars’ bus service will run as usual. We are very much looking forward to this exciting day and we are sure that our pupils will have fun competing in all of the events and activities.

On Monday 18th July in the afternoon, pupils will be empty their lockers completely.  This is to ensure they are cleaned over the summer break.

We will hold our End of Year assembly for all pupils on Wednesday 20th July, the last morning of the school year, after which pupils will be dismissed at approxiamately12:30pm.  This will also be a non-uniform day; pupils who donate £1 will be allowed to attend school in non-uniform. Monies collected will go towards raising money for the charity; “Relay for life Jarrow”, part of Cancer Research UK. We must point out that, although pupils are not required to wear school uniform, they must be dressed modestly and appropriately as is the norm on non-uniform events.

The scholars’ bus service will run as normal on the morning but there will be no afternoon service or school lunches.  If your child is entitled to a free school meal please contact the Academy by Friday 15th July to request a packed lunch.

The first day of the autumn term for pupils will be Tuesday 6th September.  Our new Year 7 pupils, along with Prefects, should arrive at 8:45am; the scholars’ bus service will be available for this journey.  All other pupils are expected in school no earlier than 11.25am and report at the end of morning break to their registration groups.

Thank you for all of your support over the last 12 months and we hope that everyone has a wonderful summer break.
