b'Enhancing LearningStudents at Whitburn C of E Academy are given a wide range of inspirational learning experiences outside the classroom to support their personal development and enhance learning opportunities. We actively provide an extensive array of opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the school day. Our extended school programme offers a very wide variety of after school and lunchtime activities, allowing our students to express and develop their talents. These range from sporting activities and performing arts events, musical opportunities and also more academic options such as STEM club and MFL Master Classes. We celebrate sporting successes in many disciplines at local, regional and national level. This is supported by an extensive extra-curricular provision in both individual and team sports. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is very popular and offered to all in Year 9 and above. We strongly encourage all students to attend at least one extra-curricular activity, as these allow students to integrate and make new friends, build up their condence and self-esteem and expand their horizons.Opportunities to learn outside the classroom develop students cultural awareness and global appreciation. We have educational visits to enhance the school curriculum, both within the UK and abroad. During recent years we have visited Poland, France, Nepal and Iceland. The school is at the heart of the local community and works closely with our local primary schools and local charities such as The Key Project. This is part of our commitment to educating the whole person and preparing students to be active and responsible citizens. 9'
